The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) at the National Center for Atmospheric
Research (NCAR) invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist position
to conduct research on thermospheric response to atmospheric waves from
below and to solar and magnetospheric forcing from above, with a particular
emphasis on the utilization and interpretation of data from the Gravity
Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) satellite. The
selected postdoctoral fellow will interact with HAO staff as well as other
researchers on the GOCE team to carry out integrated analysis of model
simulations and GOCE measurements. The position is for one year with the
possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and funding
availability.

Among the facilities available at HAO for this research are the NCAR
Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Mesosphere-Electrodynamics General Circulation
Model (TIMEGCM), the Global Scale Wave Model (GSWM), and the extended Whole
Atmospheric Model (WACCM-X). The applicant must have completed a Ph.D. in
a physical science not more than 3 years before starting the appointment or
have an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful
candidate should demonstrate a strong background in one or more areas of
ionospheric, thermospheric, or atmospheric research, with particular
interest in the interaction between the different regions. Also desired,
but not required, are experience in interpreting the outputs of large
computer models and experience in analyzing satellite observations and
other data sets.

A complete application should include (1) a statement from the applicant
regarding his/her interest in the position, (2) a curriculum vitae
summarizing education and work experience, (3) a list of all scientific
publications, (4) a transcript of graduate school grades and an abstract of
the PhD thesis, and (5) three letters of recommendation (please note that
it is the applicant’s responsibility to request that letters be sent).
Applications
should be submitted online at

https://ucar.silkroad.com/epostings/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.jobinfo&id=23&jobid=217736&company_id=15947&version=1&source=ONLINE&JobOwner=992737&level=levelid1&levelid1=45212&startflag=2

Initial consideration will be given to applications received prior to July
15, 2015. Thereafter, applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
