Announcement of a Special Issue of Advances in Space Research on

Advances in Equatorial, Low-and Mid-Latitude Mesosphere, Thermosphere and Ionosphere Studies

Papers are invited for a special topical issue of Advances in Space Research ( ASR ) "Advances in Equatorial, Low- and Mid-Latitude Mesosphere, Thermosphere and Ionosphere Studies".

The main objective of this Special Issue (SI) of Advances in Space Research (ASR) is to highlight recent findings in the field of equatorial, low- and mid-latitude regions of mesosphere, thermosphere, and ionosphere from observational (ground-based and space-borne) and theoretical (analytical and model) studies. This ASR issue is open to all scientists who may have an appropriate scientific paper related to all aspects in this area that include: coupling between the lower and upper atmosphere; interconnection between low-, mid-, and high-latitude mesospheric, thermospheric, and ionospheric processes; ionospheric irregularities and scintillations; sporadic E-layer; prediction of equatorial spread-F (ESF) and plasma bubbles; the F3 layer; MLT and thermospheric wind system; ionospheric electrodynamics; equatorial ionospheric current system; long- and short-period variability; storm and substorm effects; latitudinal and /or longitudinal variability including development and decay of equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA); effects of severe space weather events; nowcasting/forecasting and modeling of ionosphere for different applications; novel observational techniques including ionospheric tomography and radio occultation technique. We welcome original and high-quality relevant manuscripts from all scientists in the upper atmosphere community.

Papers must be submitted electronically to http://ees.elsevier.com/asr . To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue, authors must select "Special Issue: MLT & Ionosphere Studies" when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.

Submitted papers must be written in English and should include full affiliation addresses for all authors.  Submitted full-length papers will be considered for publication, subject to peer review by two reviewers.  There are no page limits although the length of the paper should be appropriate for the material being presented.  While the deadline for submissions is 31 January 2015, papers will be published electronically as soon as they are accepted.  The printed issue will be assembled within a reasonable time with late papers being printed in regular issues of ASR .  All articles will be typeset at no cost to the author; there is a nominal charge for printing color figures although there is no charge for color figures on the electronic version.

Drs. Maxim Klimenko (maksim.klimenko at mail.ru) and Libo Liu (liul at mail.iggcas.ac.cn) are the Guest Editors for this special issue. Questions can be directed to them or to the ASR Co-Editor for Special Issues, Dr. Peggy Ann Shea (sssrc at msn.com).
The general format for submission of papers can be found on the ASR Elsevier web site at http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/644/authorinstructions .

With best regards,
Maxim Klimenko
