(1) Order long-sleeved 25th anniversary CEDAR T-shirt or polo before 24 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Barbara Emery (emery at ucar.edu).
We plan to order 100 long- and short-sleeved 25th anniversary CEDAR
T-shirts and polos to sell at the meeting and earlier. We are taking
initial orders for all the long-sleeved shirts, since no extras will be
bought to sell at the workshop. Similarly no small or 2XL or larger
shirts will be available at the workshop. Very few mediums and XLs will
be at the meeting. We plan to have both polos and T-shirts available in
mostly the large size.
We currently have about 10 shirt orders, which are all black. Therefor,
we will not make any white shirts to save on the number of screens needed.
If you really want a white T-shirt or polo, contact Barbara Emery as soon
as possible so we have time to reconsider this decision. The order goes
in early on Monday 24 June and cannot be changed later.
Specifications and sizes for the shirts are located at
http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2010_Workshop:Shirts.
The T-shirts are normal sizing, but the long sleeves are long for
women. The polos run large, especially the long-sleeved polos.
We can only accept cash or checks for the shirts. Please email
Kendra Greb [mailto:kgreb at ucar.edu Kendra Greb] clear directions of
what shirt(s) you want in what sizes. The shirts can be picked
up at the 2010 Workshop or mailed to you after the workshop. You
do not have to go to the Workshop to get a shirt.

(2) 13-23 July "Ionospheric Plasma Physics" PARS Summer School in Alaska
- funding applications from student/faculty pairs due 31 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Bill Bristow (bill.bristow at gi.alaska.edu).
Apply today for the Polar Aeronomy and Radio Science (PARS) summer school to be
held in
Alaska July 13 through July 23, 2010 This year’s school will be organized around
the
theme of “Ionospheric Plasma Physics”.
The school brings in about 20 student/faculty pairs to carry out a program of study
and experiments relating to the theme of the school. We divide the time between
lectures,
field trips, and experiments. Each student is responsible for planning and
carrying out
an experiment using the variety of facilities available in Alaska. Admission to the
school is based upon the experiment proposal the students submit with their
applications.
All costs for the participants will be paid for by the Geophysical Institute
with funds
from the Air Force Research Lab, the Office of Naval Research, and the National
Science
Foundation.
The deadline for applications is May 31, 2010. Information about the school can
be found
at http://www.gi.alaska.edu/PARS, or by contacting mailto:Ms. Kimberly Cummins
<kcummins at gi.alaska.edu>

(3) 4-9 Oct 2010, School and Workshop on the Dynamics and Chemistry of
the Upper Atmosphere at the Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute,
Argentina. Student applications due 4 June - extended from 14 May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Diego Janches (diego at cora.nwra.com)
Dear Colleagues
The deadline for applications to the PASI School on Chemistry and Dynamics
of the Upper Atmosphere to be held in San Juan, Argentina, from 4-9 October
has been extended to June 4th. For more information visit http://acd.ucar.edu/pasi

(4) Postdoctoral Position in Space Physics at the University of British
Columbia starts 1 September or earlier.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Bernie Shizgal (shizgal at chem.ubc.ca).
A postdoctoral position is available at the University of British Columbia,
Canada for
a recent PhD in space physics with a very good background in kinetic theory and
plasma physics. The research project involves the theoretical modeling of the
terrestrial exosphere and the coupling with the ionosphere-magnetosphere systems.
A major objective will be the modeling of the exosphere-ionosphere system from
the collision dominated region at low altitudes to the collisionless region at
high altitudes. This will include the kinetic theory of energetic species,
notably atomic oxygen and O+, and in particular the energization mechanisms
that lead to escape. The project is one of several research projects in
preparation for the launch of the Enhanced Polar Outflow Probe (ePOP) in 2011,
and is carried out in collaboration with Professor Andrew Yau of the Institute
of Space Imaging Science at the University of Calgary. A description of the
satellite mission, science objectives and the science team can be found at
http://epop.phys.ucalgary.ca/index.html. The theoretical modeling results
will be compared with data from ePOP.
Candidates expert in ionospheric and space plasma physics with excellent
computational/numerical skills are encouraged to apply. The position is
available from September 1, 2010 or earlier and is initially for one year
but can be renewed for up to three years on mutual agreement. The stipend
is consistent with the postdoctoral rates of the Natural Sciences and
Engineering Research Council of Canada and commensurate with the applicant’s
background and publication record.
Applications should be submitted by email to Professor Bernie Shizgal
(shizgal at chem.ubc.ca). Candidates interested in applying for the position
should submit a detailed CV which should include a list of publications
and a detailed statement outlining their future research and career goals.
The names and contact information of three references should be provided.
