Job Description
Meteorological Field Technicians

The New York State Mesonet, led by the University at Albany, seeks to fill four positions for Meteorology/Electronics, which will be part of a team responsible for weather stations across the state of New York.  Tasks include:

*    Installing new weather stations;
*    Responsibility for routine and emergency maintenance of ~125 mesoscale weather monitoring stations and their connectivity to the Mesonet operations center;
*    Travel to remote sites sometimes requiring overnight stays;
*    Troubleshooting and repairing/replacing failed sensors and electronic equipment on a deadline basis;
*    Upgrading equipment and sensors;
*    Operating power equipment to maintain site vegetation;
*    Assisting in the operation of the Mesonet's communication infrastructure;
*    Performing on-site calibrations of sensors in the field as well as laboratory-based calibration;
*    Assisting fellow technicians with projects in their maintenance areas;
*    Submitting paperwork and digital metadata on a deadline basis to document sensor problems and site conditions/inspections; and
*    Working with and submitting reports to agencies outside of NYS Mesonet.

Minimum Qualifications:
*    2 Years' College/Associates Degree in Electronics or Meteorology from a college or university accredited by the U.S Dept. of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.  (equivalent combination of education/related experience accepted);
*    2 Years' experience in electronics or meteorology field work;
*    Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions;
*    Valid driver's license;
*    Experience with computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office);
*    Ability to lift and carry objects 45 pounds and over;
*    Ability to climb, including ladders and communications towers (up to 100 feet) where agility or balance is an issue;
*    Strong attention to detail; ability to work with a team to solve challenging problems, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
*    Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or equivalent with coursework in Instrumentation;
*    Experience with meteorological data analysis or instrumentation;
*    Familiarity with Mesonet data;
*    Experience in data transmission via RF, Wi-Fi, Satellite, and Microwave communications; and
*    Experience in instrumentation interface software and dataloggers
*    Experience in one of the following areas:  precipitation gauges, lidar or microwave profilers, passive radiometers or surface flux sensors
