Post-Doctoral Research Position in Numerical Weather Prediction
University at Albany

The University at Albany is seeking a post-doctoral research associate with research interests in mesoscale numerical weather prediction and data assimilation.  The research supported by this award will be directed toward the development and implementation of a mesoscale data assimilation and numerical weather prediction (NWP) system associated with the New York State Mesonet.  This will include analysis of OSSEs in support of optimizing the observation network.

Candidates should hold a PhD in atmospheric science or related discipline, conferred within the last three years, from a college or university accredited by the U.S Dept. of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, have experience using numerical weather prediction models, and have the ability to work independently.  Ideal candidates would have some experience with the WRF modeling system, the NCAR DART Ensemble Kalman Filter infrastructure, and programming using Fortran and Python; however, these skills are not required.

Terms of appointment are for one (1) year, renewable for two additional years, subject to satisfactory performance.  All applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
