[ncl-talk] NCL 6.2.0 hanging on startup

Good Morning,

I've installed NCL version 6.2.0 here:

kerfoot at kerfoot-new: /opt
$ ls -l

drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 13  2014 MATLAB

drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 May 13  2014 ncl_ncarg-6.2.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    9 May 13  2014 nco -> nco-4.4.3
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 May 13  2014 nco-4.4.3
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   12 May 13  2014 netcdf -> netcdf-4.3.2
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 May 13  2014 netcdf-4.3.2

and have set the NCARG_ROOT=/opt/ncl

which has the following contents:

$ cd ncl
/opt/ncl
kerfoot at kerfoot-new: /opt/ncl
$ ls -l
total 12
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 May 13  2014 bin
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 13  2014 include
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 13  2014 lib

I've added /opt/ncl/bin to my $PATH.

When I try to startup ncl, it begins to startup, but hangs without
providing me an interactive prompt:

$ which ncl
/usr/bin/ncl
kerfoot at kerfoot-new: /opt/ncl
$ ncl
 Copyright (C) 1995-2014 - All Rights Reserved
 University Corporation for Atmospheric Research
 NCAR Command Language Version 6.2.0
 The use of this software is governed by a License Agreement.
 See http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/ for more details.

and I have to hit ^C to exit.

Any ideas/help much appreciated.
