Further, I know that you will always follow the ncl-talk mantra of "Look at
your data", you will note that

     time:

has missing values [ -2147483647    ]

These are not identified as such on the netCDF file.  Not good netCDF
practice.
Hence, you will have to add and set the _FillValue attribute.
