The URI Graduate School of Oceanography is seeking applicants for a funded
PhD position in ocean instrumentation and polar biogeochemistry. The
research will focus on instrument and method development of underwater mass
spectrometry (UMS). UMS observations can be used to e.g. estimate ocean
ecosystem metabolism, to trace glacial melt around marine-terminating
glaciers, and to map benthic methane and nitrous oxide fluxes. The first
phase of the PhD will utilize UMS data collected in the Terra Nova Bay
polynya, Antarctica.

This project includes opportunities to expand the existing capacities of
the UMS, and for data processing by machine learning, depending on the
interests of the successful applicant.
