The Environmental Fluid Mechanics group (http://sites.bu.edu/efm/) in the
Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University is seeking a
postdoctoral candidate interested in urban climate modeling. Specifically,
the successful candidate will lead research on improving the urban canopy
models in the Community Earth System Model (CESM) and the Geophysical Fluid
Dynamics Laboratory Earth System Model and using these urbanized global
earth system models to explore a range of urban sustainability and
environmental issues including heat stress, water scarcity, urban-related
land-use transitions, and urban-atmosphere interactions.

Candidates with previous experience with urban climate modeling using
large-scale weather (e.g., WRF) and climate models (e.g., CESM) and
experience with high-performance computing in Unix based operating systems
and scientific computing languages (e.g., Matlab, Python) are preferred, but
highly motivated graduates with background in meteorology and climatology,
hydrology, geography, and earth sciences are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D.
degree is required by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will benefit from close collaborations with the
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and GFDL. The successful
candidate will also benefit from an outstanding research environment at
Boston University. In particular, the Department of Earth and Environment at
Boston University has strong strengths in areas of land-use/land-cover
change and coupled natural and human dimensions of climate change. The
department is also home to the Center for Remote Sensing, an active cluster
of faculty who are world leaders in this field.

Interested applicants should contact Dr. Dan Li (lidan at bu.edu
<mailto:lidan at bu.edu> ). Please include a cover letter, your latest CV, and
names of up to three references. Position start date is as soon as possible
but can be changed depending on the candidate's availability. Initial
contract duration is 12 months. Extension is desired but conditional on the
performance of the candidate.

Boston University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified
applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race,
color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran
status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Applications from
female and minority candidates are strongly encouraged. Boston University
offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
