Specifically, the successful candidate will lead research on improving the urban canopy models in the Community Earth System Model (CESM) and the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Earth System Model and using these urbanized global earth system models to explore a range of urban sustainability and environmental issues including heat stress, water scarcity, urban-related land-use transitions, and urban-atmosphere interactions. </span><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;line-height:16.5pt'><span style='font-size:11.0pt;color:black'> </span><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;line-height:16.5pt'><span style='font-size:11.0pt;color:black'>Candidates with previous experience with urban climate modeling using large-scale weather (e.g., WRF) and climate models (e.g., CESM) and experience with high-performance computing in Unix based operating systems and scientific computing languages (e.g., Matlab, Python) are preferred, but highly motivated graduates with background in meteorology and climatology, hydrology, geography, and earth sciences are encouraged to apply.
