ACT-America Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Assistant Professor

A postdoctoral position or research assistant professor position is
available as part of the Atmospheric Carbon and Transport - America
(ACT-America) mission depending on the candidates qualifications. ACT
America is a NASA-funded, multi-institutional, Earth Venture Suborbital
mission whose goal is to quantify and reduce uncertainty in our
understanding of greenhouse gas fluxes and transport. The successful
candidate will analyze aircraft data spanning the eastern U.S. and four
seasons with an ensemble numerical modeling system incorporating
uncertainties in atmospheric transport and greenhouse gas fluxes.
Collaboration with students and research scientists spanning multiple
universities, federal labs, and NASA research centers is expected.

A qualified postdoctoral candidate should have a strong background in one or
more of the following areas: carbon cycle science, ensemble modeling and
data assimilation, inverse methods, boundary layer meteorology and aircraft
data analyses. Strong communications skills, and a Ph.D. in atmospheric
sciences or a related field are required.

To qualify for a research assistant professor position the successful
candidate should have the same qualifications, but also have at least 2
years of postdoctoral research experience. The ability to contribute to
research and data management, and to assist project graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows is beneficial.

The initial appointments are for one year, with strong potential for
continued support. The positions are available beginning 1 September, 2018,
and will remain open until filled. The salaries will be commensurate with
experience, and will comply with Pennsylvania State University guidelines.

To apply, please upload a current CV, a cover letter, the names and
addresses of three references, and a brief statement of research interests
and long-term goals. Applications received by 30 August will receive full
consideration. For questions about the positions, contact Ken Davis,
