The Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum and research comple=
x, offers several Postdoctoral Fellowships annually to outstanding early ca=
reer scientists. The Smithsonian's distinctive combination of field resear=
ch facilities, museum archives, and expertise in ecology, biological conser=
vation, systematics, and paleobiology provides opportunities for synthetic,=
big-picture insights into some of the most profound issues challenging our=
world today, including habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species.

Scientists at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center<https://webacce=

%2f%2fwww.serc.si.edu%2findex.aspx> (SERC) on the Chesapeake Bay in Marylan=
d conduct environmental research in temperate, tropical, and polar ecosyste=
ms across the globe. Recent research has highlighted the separate and inter=
active impacts of multiple global change factors on populations, communitie=
s, and ecosystems, including climate change, biological invasions, biodiver=
sity loss, nutrient loading, trace element pollution, and habitat alteratio=
n. Insights gained in these studies will be crucial to developing science-=
based conservation plans that allow human societies to thrive while protect=
ing our finite natural resources.

Smithsonian Fellows receive an annual stipend of $48,000 plus health, reloc=
ation, and research allowances. Each position is expected to run for two y=
ears, with the second year of funding contingent upon satisfactory progress=
. Applicants are encouraged to coordinate with a SERC scientist prior to s=
ubmitting an application for this competitively-awarded fellowship. Applic=
ations are due December 1st, 2015. Please contact Professional Training Co=
