Research Associate or Assistant Position in Wetland Biogeochemistry

The Roberts Lab of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry=20
(http://robertsresearchlab.weebly.com/) at the Louisiana Universities=20
Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking a research associate or assistant=20=

in Wetland Biogeochemistry to participate in a series of=20
field/laboratory and manipulative experiments studying the effects of=20
the Macondo Oil Spill on coastal marsh ecosystems. The new hire will=20
join a large, multi-institution team of researchers in the Coastal=20
Waters Consortium (http://cwc.lumcon.edu/), a BP GoMRI-funded project=20
studying the impacts of the oil spill and future spills on salt marshes=20=

and coastal environments. The position is associated with a=20
collaborative subproject on wetland biogeochemistry and microbial=20
ecology led by Drs. Brian Roberts (LUMCON), Anne Giblin (Marine=20
Biological Laboratory), and Anne Bernhard (Connecticut College). The=20
objectives of the project are to 1) improve our understanding of=20
temporal and spatial patterns in marsh biogeochemical process rates,=20
associated microbial communities, and factors regulating these=20
communities and rates; and 2) evaluate the impact of and recovery from=20=

oil exposure on marsh biogeochemical processes and associated microbial=20=

communities. The research associate/assistant will support the field and=20=

laboratory analytical activities designed to accomplish these=20
objectives. The position will be based at LUMCON and will require=20
extensive field and laboratory work. This is a unique opportunity to=20
collaborate with top scientists from around the United States in a=20
large, interdisciplinary research project of great importance to the US=20=

Gulf Coast and other ecosystems impacted by oil-related activities.=20
Qualifications: The candidate must have a M.S. or B.S in ecology,=20
wetland science, biogeochemistry or a related field. Familiarity with=20
analytical instrumentation including autoanalyzers (for analysis of=20
inorganic nutrients), TOC/TN analyzers (DOC/TDN), elemental analyzers=20
(C, N), and/or gas chromatographs (CO2, CH4, and N2O) is desired. The=20
candidate will also be expected to participate in field work that may=20
require physical effort to transport equipment in field sites throughout=20=

Louisiana that are accessible only by small boats. The ability to work=20=

in a group setting is essential, as this researcher will work=20
collaboratively with the PIs, post docs, graduate and undergraduate=20
students, and other research associates/assistants/technicians on this=20=

project as well as personnel on the larger Coastal Waters Consortium=20
project. The position requires high organizational and communication=20
skills as well as significant database management capabilities.=20

Duration and Start Date: Initial appointment is for 1 year and may be=20=

renewed for a total of 2.5 years with this funding, depending on=20
satisfactory performance. The desired start date is summer 2015.

Location: The position will be based at the Louisiana Universities=20
Marine Consortium (LUMCON) Marine Center in Cocodrie, LA (visit=20
http://www.lumcon.edu for information on the facility). The field sites=20=

are located along the Louisiana coast between LUMCON and the Mississippi

River.

To Apply: Send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the name,=20
address, phone and email contact for at least three individuals=20
qualified to comment on scientific and work qualifications to Dr. Brian=20=

Roberts (broberts at lumcon.edu) with =93Wetlands Research=20
Associate/Assistant position=94 in the subject line. For questions or mor=
e=20
information contact Dr. Roberts by email or phone (985-851-2821).

Deadline: Review of applications will commence immediately and continue=20=

until the position is filled.=20=20

Action Employer that actively seeks diversity among its employees.
