The Roberts Lab of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry=20<br>

Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking a research associate or assistant=20=<br>
<br>
in Wetland Biogeochemistry to participate in a series of=20<br>
field/laboratory and manipulative experiments studying the effects of=20<br>
the Macondo Oil Spill on coastal marsh ecosystems. The new hire will=20<br>
join a large, multi-institution team of researchers in the Coastal=20<br>
Waters Consortium (<a href="http://cwc.lumcon.edu/" target="_blank">http://cwc.lumcon.edu/</a>), a BP GoMRI-funded project=20<br>
studying the impacts of the oil spill and future spills on salt marshes=20=<br>
<br>
and coastal environments. The position is associated with a=20<br>
collaborative subproject on wetland biogeochemistry and microbial=20<br>
ecology led by Drs. Brian Roberts (LUMCON), Anne Giblin (Marine=20<br>
Biological Laboratory), and Anne Bernhard (Connecticut College). The=20<br>
objectives of the project are to 1) improve our understanding of=20<br>
temporal and spatial patterns in marsh biogeochemical process rates,=20<br>
associated microbial communities, and factors regulating these=20<br>
communities and rates; and 2) evaluate the impact of and recovery from=20=<br>
<br>
oil exposure on marsh biogeochemical processes and associated microbial=20=<br>
<br>
communities. The research associate/assistant will support the field and=20=<br>
<br>
laboratory analytical activities designed to accomplish these=20<br>
objectives. The position will be based at LUMCON and will require=20<br>
extensive field and laboratory work. This is a unique opportunity to=20<br>
collaborate with top scientists from around the United States in a=20<br>
large, interdisciplinary research project of great importance to the US=20=<br>
<br>
Gulf Coast and other ecosystems impacted by oil-related activities.=20<br>
Qualifications: The candidate must have a M.S. or B.S in ecology,=20<br>
wetland science, biogeochemistry or a related field. Familiarity with=20<br>
analytical instrumentation including autoanalyzers (for analysis of=20<br>
inorganic nutrients), TOC/TN analyzers (DOC/TDN), elemental analyzers=20<br>
(C, N), and/or gas chromatographs (CO2, CH4, and N2O) is desired. The=20<br>
candidate will also be expected to participate in field work that may=20<br>
require physical effort to transport equipment in field sites throughout=20=<br>
<br>
Louisiana that are accessible only by small boats. The ability to work=20=<br>
<br>
in a group setting is essential, as this researcher will work=20<br>
collaboratively with the PIs, post docs, graduate and undergraduate=20<br>
students, and other research associates/assistants/technicians on this=20=<br>
<br>
project as well as personnel on the larger Coastal Waters Consortium=20<br>
project. The position requires high organizational and communication=20<br>
skills as well as significant database management capabilities.=20<br>
<br>
Duration and Start Date: Initial appointment is for 1 year and may be=20=<br>
<br>
renewed for a total of 2.5 years with this funding, depending on=20<br>
satisfactory performance. The desired start date is summer 2015.<br>
<br>
Location: The position will be based at the Louisiana Universities=20<br>
Marine Consortium (LUMCON) Marine Center in Cocodrie, LA (visit=20<br>
<a href="http://www.lumcon.edu" target="_blank">http://www.lumcon.edu</a> for information on the facility). The field sites=20=<br>
<br>
are located along the Louisiana coast between LUMCON and the Mississippi<br>
<br>
River.<br>
