 Electronics Technologist SE

 Job Summary

 Job Specifications:
Located at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, the staff member
will assist in the maintenance and application of a global radar network in
support of DOE's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research
Facility (http://www.arm.gov) at its North Slope of Alaska (NSA) and ARM
Mobile Facility 3 (AMF2) sites in Barrow and Oliktok, Alaska. The ARM
Program operates and maintains of a network of fixed and mobile sites
providing data to the climate research community. ARM sites include a broad
array of instrumentation including radars, lidars, radiometers, and
meteorological sensors. Recently ARM expanded its suite of cloud and
precipitation radars in number and capability.

The successful candidate will perform operational checks, routine
preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ARM¿s radars
operating at C-band through W-band frequencies. The position will require
interaction on a daily basis with site managers, ARM's radar engineers and
scientists to assess the status of radars and recommend appropriate courses
of action.  Travel 12 to 20 weeks per year to remote DOE facilities in
Alaska and elsewhere.  Willingness to work in cold (down to -40 degrees
Fahrenheit in winter), remote field environments.

Job Summary:
Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of
electrical and electronic apparatus and equipment, including the entire
process of electronic fabrication, packaging, and assembly of micromodules
into complex electronic equipment systems.

 Primary Job Duties

 Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical and
electronic apparatus and equipment, including electronic fabrication,
packaging, and assembly of components into complex electronic equipment
systems.
Fabricates, packages, and tests semiconductors, printed circuit board
design and test, circuit or micromodules.
Assists in conducting experiments and acquiring data.
Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedures
to meet desired specifications.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 Typically requires skill in electronics or related technologies, such as
mechanics or optics.
May require specialized training for the control of radioactive material
and wastes.
Knowledge and experience with electrical design, installation, testing,
repair, and maintenance.
Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of electrical
design, engineering, or maintenance.
Ability to prepare and present electrical systems and equipment testing and
reporting.
Knowledge of the use, distribution, and potential variances and hazards of
electrical currents.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other
related specifications.
Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories' electricity-related policies,
practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of requirements and environmental impacts affecting electrical
design, engineering, and maintenance.
Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating
alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting
electronic systems and equipment.
Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and independently with minimum direct
supervision.
Demonstrated and verifiable interpersonal skills.

 Required

 -Requires high school diploma plus three or more years of directly related
experience in Electronics Technology, Electrical or Computer Engineering;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in:
-Analog/digital electronics
-RF electronics
-Digital signal processing
-Computer hardware/software integration
-Comprehensive knowledge of general and RF test equipment
-Electronics repair
-Linux in a realtime environment
-Willingness to work in cold, remote field environments.
-Ability to travel 12 to 20 weeks per year to DOE facilities in Alaska and
elsewhere

 Desired

 -AS or BS in Electronics Technology or Electrical or Computer Engineering;
-Experience with deploying and maintaining radar systems.
-Experience as a participant in field operations or scientific field
campaigns.
-Experience with instrument systems and automated data collection systems.
-Arctic field experience.
-Demonstrated experience developing ES&H requirements and documentation for
field projects including Engineered Safety.
-Experience with airborne atmospheric measurements from manned or unmanned
aircraft, tethered balloons, or free-flight balloons.
-Demonstrated experience working on complex projects with a range of
organizations inside and outside Sandia including academic, commercial,
state, and federal agencies.

 Security Clearance

 Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security
clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background
review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and
credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for
employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security
clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
