Hi tgcmgroup:

will be shutdown starting tomorrow morning early until 5:30 pm on
Sunday. This includes the semi-annual ML power down on Saturday.

The announcement from the daily bulletin is copied below.

SCD Computer Room Notification - Note Time Change
_________________________________________________

There will be a shutdown of supercomputing services at the NCAR Mesa
Lab computing facility beginning 10/21/2004 at 0200 hrs to 10/24/2004
at 1730 hrs. This shutdown is the first of three to occur during the
coming months for improvements to the chilled water plant.

During the shutdown, critical business continuity systems will be
available - phones, e-mail, web services and networking. All
supercomputing systems requiring high levels of cooling will be
unavailable during the shutdown period.

Note: The semi-annual Mesa Lab power down is scheduled for 10/23/2004
concurrent with the project outage of the computer room. Networking
will be intermittent during a period on the 23rd (see note below
for details.)

Announcements of shutdowns two and three will be made as soon as
details become available. The second shutdown is expected to occur in
January 2005, and the third will be scheduled shortly thereafter.

NETS will be upgrading the ML switches ml-mr-c1-gs and ml-mr-c2-gs
beginning 10/23/2004 at 0600 hrs and ending by 1200 hrs. The purpose
of this upgrade is to increase the gigabit ethernet capacity available
in the machine room. All networking and phones at the Mesa Lab will
experience a roughly 15 minute outage at the beginning of this period
as the supervisor modules of the switches are replaced. During the
remaining period individual gigabit ethernet hosts will experience
brief outages of roughly one minute each as they are moved from the
current low-capacity gigabit ethernet modules to new high-capacity
modules. Phones and other critical systems should be available after
the initial period of the outage.
