Just a quick note, if the problem that needs to be solved is how to
convert grib files into netcdf files, wgrib2 does that pretty nicely:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/wesley/wgrib2/netcdf.html
No need to bring in a sledgehammer to nail up a picture frame...
