The Institute of Atmospheric Sciences at the South Dakota School of Mines
and Technology is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12-month faculty
position in atmospheric sciences to complement and expand current areas of
research in cloud physics, radar meteorology, land surface processes,
numerical modeling, fire weather and biogeochemistry. We are especially
interested in candidates with expertise in mesoscale, synoptic or boundary
layer meteorology. Additionally, a background in wind and solar energy
and/or expertise in atmospheric water resources would be beneficial.
Applicants should possess a PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or a
related physical or natural sciences field, or obtain it by the start
date. We seek an individual who will acquire external research funding,
and actively recruit and interact with graduate and undergraduate students
in the Atmospheric Science academic programs. The successful applicant
will also join other Institute scientists as a non-tenure track faculty
member in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, and teach from two to
three courses per academic year. This position is fully supported for
first year, with support in subsequent years up to 40%. The Department
offers a curriculum that satisfies federal requirements for federal civil
service employment as a meteorologist. This curriculum supports three
degree programs including the Atmospheric Science track in the BS in
Interdisciplinary Sciences program, an MS in Atmospheric Sciences, and a
PhD in Atmospheric and Environmental Science. Questions regarding this
