[ncl-talk] Question regarding wk_spacetime( ) function

Dear sir/madam
I was trying to work with an OLR dataset that I had obtained from NOAA
website and I wanted to find the Wheeler-Khiladis wavenumber-frequency
domain plot using the wk_spacetime function that is provided in NCL. I
wanted to ask if before using the variable from the dataset, should I
filter the data as has been mentioned in the paper -* Convectively Coupled
Equatorial Waves: Analysis of Clouds and Temperature in the
Wavenumber–Frequency Domain - Matthew Wheeler* ?

I am quoting the part of the paper which mentions regarding the filtering :

" To help prevent aliasing, the first three harmonics of the seasonal cycle
are removed. Then for each segment the mean and linear trend are removed in
time by a least squares fit, and the ends of the series are tapered to
zero."

Below is the link to the aforementioned paper :

Thank you
Mayuresh
