Barry,
As you requested offline, I've attached the Fortran code that is used by
wrf_pvo and wrf_avo under the hood.
I'm not aware of a function that calculates geostrophic equivalent
potential vorticity. I've CC'ed wrfhelp at ucar.edu in case they have
something.
