The problem was that your variable had “short” type and had to be converted into “float" beforehand. After using the function short2flt everything looks fine. Please find attached the correct script with also slight improvement in how you draw the plot: I assume you only want 1 figure in the output but if you are not specifying NOT to draw the plot before overlaying the shapefile you would get 2 plots instead of 1.
Try it out and let me know if it works for you.
