[ncl-install] Some problems to install the last version of NCL

Hi Silvana,

Could you please copy the “wget” line of your ./wget-download-20180605T162301Z-0600.sh script? A username and password are not usually required to download NCL, and I’m wondering if there’s an extra option that’s being included with your “wget” command.

Also, it looks like you’re trying to download the NCL source code (“ncl_ncarg-6.4.0.tar.gz”), which will need to be compiled. We usually recommend downloading a pre-compiled version of NCL (see: https://www.earthsystemgrid.org/dataset/ncl.640.dap/file.html <https://www.earthsystemgrid.org/dataset/ncl.640.dap/file.html>) unless you have a particular reason to build from source.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? If you are using Ubuntu 14.04, the “ncl_ncarg-6.4.0-Debian7.11_64bit_gnu472.tar.gz” build is best; if you’re on a newer version of Ubuntu (16.04 for example), then I would recommend the “ncl_ncarg-6.4.0-Debian8.6_64bit_gnu492.tar.gz” download. However, if you’re using Ubuntu 18.04, then you may need to try installing NCL using the “apt” package manager: “apt install ncl-ncarg”.
