[ncl-install] installing ncl

Hi Mary I did it because on a previous post Gerry told me about using a binary file could be tricky to run it on my system configuration.

But right now I got it work from the source code the version 6.1.2.
The error finding the –lnetcdf file was fixed changing the LINUX and the Site file on config/ I was able to add to the #define ArchRecLibSearch the -L/usr/local/netcdf/4.4.0/pgi/14.6/lib which is the location of my netcdf libs. I was hoping as part of the installation process the configuration file read my .tcshrc because on it I have all the variables set.
So thanks Its working now

I'd wait for a definitive answer from Mary Haley before you do. I will also see if I can find a package for RHEL/CentOS6 that you might use. Not sure where I'll have that, but I think I do.

In general, the CentOS 7 binary will not work for a 6.8 installation, While RHEL and CentOS back-port things, the gcc version just won't work. You might try getting gcc-4.8.2 from EPEL, but I suspect you'll have other issues.

Hi Luis,

A couple of points first:

1. You are installing V6.1.2 which is an old version.  The current version is 6.3.0. Is there a reason why you are installing an older version?
2. Why are you building from source code? We provide binaries for many Linux, MacOS, and Cygwin system, and it appears you are on a Linux system.  This is *much* easier than installing from source code.

There are a few problems with your build:

 - The build can't find the location of your NetCDF libraries or include files
 - The build can't find the location of your HDF include files
 - The build is referencing the "fl" library which doesn't exist on your system

The first two problems can be fixed by adding the path to your NetCDF and HDF paths via the $NCARG/config/Site.local file. You want to add the paths to the LibSearch and IncSearch lines in that file.

I believe the third problem is fixed in later versions of NCL, but you can probably fix it by editing $NCARG/config/Template and changing "-lfl" to "-ll".
