[ncl-install] error:path to directory not found

Dear NCL,

I want to install NCL in macOS system and I did the following:-

******************************************************************************

1) The version of MacOS that I am using is 10.6.8 and i 386
2) I then downloaded ncl_ncarg-6.3.0.MacOS_10.9_64bit_gcc492

******************************************************************************

I went to install NCAR graphics and followed the steps:-

My home directory was Users/ipshita

1) mkdir /Users/ipshita/ncl-6.3.0
2) Then I transferred the file ncl_ncarg-6.3.0.MacOS_10.9_64bit_gcc492 to
ncl-6.3.0, it was unzipped
3) export NCARG_ROOT=/Users/ipshita/ncl-6.3.0
    PATH=$NCARG_ROOT/bin:$PATH

Why is it not setting up the path?
I will grateful for any guidance
