[ncl-install] run error

Sorry, I have been out-of-town. We ask that people not respond back to individual developers directly, because we are not available 24/7.  It is best to always CC the email group for all correspondence.

It sounds like you solved your own problem. Yes, it is always better to remove a "bad" installation if it is not working.

It is possible to have multiple versions of NCL on your machine, just by changing NCARG_ROOT and your search path, but, it is better not to do this if one of the versions is not working.
