[Met_help] [rt.rap.ucar.edu #99935] History for Use of python3 in METplus

  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I got an email from a colleague this morning and it looks like they are
being asked to install METplus on a new system, comet.sdsc.edu. The system
has python3 on it, but to use it requires the command be launched as
"python3". I guess just "python" would call python2. Would this need to use
"python3" cause any problems for METplus?

Hi Mallory,

We changed run_metplus.py to use python3 from the path instead of
python if
called as an executable, so this should not be a problem. Our IT
informed
us that it is not recommended to assume python would point to python3,
so
we adjusted accordingly.

I would make sure that the version of Python3 is at least 3.6, because
the
default Python3 version on some operating systems is 3.5 and would not
work.

Cool! Thanks! And is this for the latest release, version 4.0? Or is
this
also in version 3.1?
