Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello!
I had a few questions regarding MetViewer I was hoping you could answer. I'm using a Docker Container (https://github.com/dtcenter/container-dtc-metviewer) to install it.
1. It is using Tomcat 8.5.23. Can you run it with 6.0.24? I'm having issues, but not sure if it is an issue with my installation or it simply cannot run it.
2. Can it run without R at all?
Thank you!

Hi Trevor,
I see you have a question about running METviewer within a Docker
Container. This message was forwarded to me by our DTC website
administrator. In the future, please send questions about METviewer
(and other METplus components) directly to met_help at ucar.edu as
described here:
http://dtcenter.org/community-code/metplus/user-support
The METviewer Docker container already includes a compatible instance
of Tomcat inside the container. So the version of Tomcat shouldn't
even be something you're able to control. Please take a look at this
METplus-Training video about using the METviewer Docker image. Try
running through that example and let me know if you have any
additional questions.

Hello, John!
The reason I was asking is because the system we are looking to
install it to is running an older version of Tomcat, 6.0.24.
Based off your response, I assume this isn't possible and it has to be
the version on the docker container (8.5.23)?
Thanks for your help,
Trevor Corbin

Trevor,
Are you trying to run METviewer through the Docker container? Or are
you
trying to install it directly on a Linux machine with no Docker
involved?

Well, I was able to get it working with Tomcat 8.5.23 (the one in the
container). I couldn't get it working on Tomcat 6.0.24.
I just wanted to verify if it was an issue with my attempt at
installing, or if MetViewer outright isn't compatible with that
version of Tomcat.
Thanks,
Trevor

Trevor,
Let me reassign this ticket to Tatiana Burek, the primary METviewer
developer.
Tatiana, can you answer Trevor's question as to the minimum version of
Tomcat with which METviewer is compatible?
Trevor, regarding your previous question about R. R is a requirement
for
this version of METviewer. In future versions, that dependency will be
replaced by Python. But for now, there is no option to run METviewer
without R.
Thanks,
John

Hello, Tatiana!
Just wanted to touch base and see if you had an update on this
question (Can MetViewer work on Tomcat 6.0.24?). Thanks!

Trevor,
We used to run METviewer v3.0 under Tomcat 6.0.24 but we did not test
if the latest METviewer would work with it.
It is very likely that it should work because we did not have any
updates that could cause the problems for the earlier Tomcat
versions.
