  Initial Request

Hi,

Was something changed on http://metviewerdev.ncep.noaa.gov/ ? I'm seeing
an error now when attempting to make a plot. It was working fine the last
time I used it (probably last Friday - May 1st).

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt

I suspect that some sysadmin work was done on both vm-lnx-metviewdev
servers since Friday.
Since I can't contact NOAA sysadmins I asked Perry Shafran to
investigate what happened.
I will let you know when I get more info.

Hi Tatiana,

Perry suggested that I consider using the AWS server instead of
metviewdev,
but I had a question about that transition. Is it possible to
transfer an
existing database from one server to the other, or would data need to
be
reloaded on AWS to establish a fresh database there?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Mat,
It is theoretically possible to copy the database from NCEP server and
install it on AWS, but I haven't done it.
Usually users create a new databases and reloaded the data. How big is
your database?

It is the biggest on metviewdev, but not sure on the units of storage:

mv_hrefv3 | 3527140 | 2019-07-12
22:05:48 |

I don't have all of the data to fully recreate the database on AWS, so
transferring would be preferable. But I do have the .vsdb files I'm
most
interested in for the last couple of months, so it wouldn't be a total
loss
if I had to start from scratch on AWS. But for now I'm hoping that
metviewdev revives this week.

Hi Matt,
I commented out gsl library in the User Interface instance of
METviewer. This should allow METviewer to perform limited operations
and hopefully it would be enough for you to finish your plot.
Let me know it this works for you.

Thanks - I only made one quick test plot so far, but it worked!
