Initial Request

Hi John,
When we verify T2 simulations against observations, I wonder whether
terrain adjustment is conducted in MET? For example, if there is large
difference between the model topography height and the station
elevations, does MET consider its influence on T2? Thanks!
Stay safe and healthy!

Ming,
That's a great question. In met-9.0, we did add some logic to the
Point-Stat tool to use topography information. However, we stopped
short
of modifying any values. Instead, the config options let you decide
how
close the observation station's elevation must be to the model
topography
at that location either for the observation point to be used at all or
when
determining which forecast grid points should be used when
interpolating to
that point.
Please take a look in the default Point-Stat config file at the
entries for
land_mask and topo_mask:
https://github.com/NCAR/MET/blob/master_v9.0/met/data/config/PointStatConfig_default
And search the README file for a longer description of those entries:
https://github.com/NCAR/MET/blob/master_v9.0/met/data/config/README
Please take a look at that and let me know if you have any more
questions
about their functionality.
Thanks,
John Halley Gotway
