  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, all,

I just noticed that CEILING is not coming out as a verification variable
for my METplus runs. I thought that I had verified ceiling previously, but
perhaps that is not the case, as I'm not finding it.

Here is how I have it set in METplus:

PB2NC_OBS_BUFR_VAR_LIST = PMO, ZOB, TOB, TDO, QOB, UOB, VOB, PWO, TOCC,
D_RH, HOVI, CEILING, D_PBL, D_CAPE, MXGS

FCST_VAR10_NAME = HGT
FCST_VAR10_LEVELS = L0
FCST_VAR10_OPTIONS = GRIB_lvl_typ = 215;
FCST_VAR10_THRESH = <152, <305, <914, <1520, <3040, >=914
OBS_VAR10_NAME = CEILING
OBS_VAR10_LEVELS = L0
OBS_VAR10_OPTIONS = GRIB_lvl_typ = 215;
OBS_VAR10_THRESH = <152, <305, <914, <1520, <3040, >=914

What might I be missing here?

Thanks!

Perry

Hi Perry,

I see you have a question about your METplus configuration since
CEILING
isn't showing up in the output. I don't see any obvious culprits in
the
details you sent.

However, I don't think the "OBS_VAR10_OPTIONS" setting will have any
effect... at least when running Point-Stat. Point-Stat should just be
looking for observations named "CEILING" with no regard to the
GRIB_lvl_typ. I don't think that should affect the results, but I
suppose
it's possible.

Whenever I get 0 matched pairs from Point-Stat, I always go rerun
using
verbosity level 3 and then inspect the log messages to tell me WHY I
got 0
matches. So that's what I'd recommend doing here. If it's easiest to
rerun
the case through METplus, you could reset the MET logging level using:
*   LOG_POINT_STAT_VERBOSITY = 3*

Let me know how it goes. If you'd like me to inspect any of your logs
on
WCOSS, please let me know where.

Thanks, John

Hi, John,

It could be possible that PB2NC is not processing it? I am pretty
sure
that you helped me with ceiling some time ago and it ended with a
successful processing of ceiling.

I will go ahead and set the verbosity level. Right now I
have LOG_MET_VERBOSITY = 4, so perhaps that information is already
there?
I'll go double check to see if it says anything about ceiling.

Thanks!

Perry

Hi, John,

My mistake - METplus is calculating the stats for ceiling just fine.
Just
in the particular model that I was looking at, there was no ceiling
output,
so I looked at a different model and the ceiling was there.

You may close this ticket.

Thanks!

I think I got concerned when I could not find ceiling in METviewer,
but I
think that the issue is that the problem is that it's really described
as
HGT in the grib file. Thus I added a description to the METplus that
looks
like this:

FCST_VAR10_OPTIONS = GRIB_lvl_typ = 215; desc = "CEILING";

This should work, right?

Thanks!
