Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
John and company, we are in the process of cleaning up and organizing our MET files. One thing I am planning to do is tar and compress each month's worth of mdlob_pairs and leave the tar files in the mdlob_pairs directory. I wanted to find out if the presence of these files in the mdlob_pairs directory will slow down or cause problems for MET stat analysis running against data in these directories. Does MET stat_analysis only look for .stat files?
Thanks
Bob

Bob,
When you run stat_analysis using the "-lookin directory" option, it'll
recursively search through the specified directory looking for and
reading
files that end with ".stat".
If you use the "-lookin /path/to/a/file" option, it'll attempt to open
up
and read the file you specify regardless of the suffix.
So as long as you don't say "-lookin mdlob_pairs_July2020.tar.gz",
then it
should be just fine. Having extra files sitting in those output
directories
will only take Stat-Analysis an extra milli- (or maybe micro-) second
to
ignore.
Thanks,

Bob,
When you run stat_analysis using the "-lookin directory" option, it'll
recursively search through the specified directory looking for and
reading files that end with ".stat".
If you use the "-lookin /path/to/a/file" option, it'll attempt to open

So as long as you don't say "-lookin mdlob_pairs_July2020.tar.gz",
then it should be just fine. Having extra files sitting in those
output directories will only take Stat-Analysis an extra milli- (or
