Hi team!
We're running into an odd problem and we think you can help!
We're running into a problem running stat_analysis on our previously
produced stat files (run with grid_stat - MET V7.1) and we THINK we
narrowed it down.
Where are we running: WCOSS, Gyre, specifically
What are we running: MET V8.1 -> stat_analysis on previously run stat files
(MET V7.1 -> grid_stat).
What's happening: We are unable to run stat_analysis on files previously
run by the MET V7.1 grid_stat
Error:

ERROR : AsciiHeader::read() -> trouble reading file:

This file is indeed missing in the directory. Putting it back should allow
us to run off of these stat files (I think?). Was there a reason why it was
removed?

Hi Dana.
I took a quick look in our local table_files area for version 8.1 and
prior
versions, which is when I noticed that we never had a 7.1 release. I
logged into gyre and don't see that we ever had a 7.1 installation in
the
/gpfs/dell2/emc/verification/noscrub/Julie.Prestopnik/met area. I'm
not
exactly sure where the reference to met-7.1 is coming from. Does this
information help at all? If not, if you have any further information
to
provide, that would help us track this down, that would be great.

Interesting! Did you ever have a 7.1 beta (7.1_beta6 rings a bell)
installed on WCOSS? If so, we may have ran our verification using that
beta. Maybe that got rolled into 8.0? I know we downloaded/tested the
7.1_beta6 docker container on our local VMs, I wonder if we also
tested it
on WCOSS?

find a trace of it anywhere. If you have a
met_header_columns_V7.1.txt
file, I suppose I could put it in that location, but I don't have one

Hello,
I'm just writing to follow up on this ticket. Julie is out of town
for a
couple of weeks and handed this ticket off to me. The met-7.1_beta6
release was an incremental beta release used for testing the new
development that was ultimately included in the met-8.0 release. So
"7.1"
really isn't a valid version number for MET output. If possible, I'd
advise discarding the output generated by the met-7.1_beta6 code and
switch
to using the latest, met-8.1 release, instead. If that's not
possible, the
next best solution would be editing all of the existing output from
met-7.1_beta6 and modifying it to list the version number as 8.0.
This could be done with some unix commands, like:
for stat_file in `find ./ -name "*.stat"`; do
cat $stat_file | sed -r 's/^V7.1 /V8.0 /g' > new
mv new $stat_file
done
And if that's not possible either, then you could add a new header
file for
7.1 (met_header_columns_V7.1.txt). But that's not a great solution
because
that file won't exist in future versions of MET. So it's preferable
to
"fix" the data by throwing it away or by updating the version number
in it.

Hey John,
We were able to work with Julie to add the 7.1 header file in the
directory
to bridge us. This was only needed to set up our processing while we
reran
our verification with 8.1. It was a good learning experience for us to
get
to know how the system works a little better.
