  Initial Request

Hi All,

I am a new user of MET package and I am mainly working with Mode Time Domain (MTD) part of this package to track the thunderstorms. I have a couple of questions as follows:

1) I am wondering if there is any possibility to get more detailed information at each time step from MTD like velocity or precipitation rate quantiles at each time step? 2) In addition, both MODE and MTD provide us with 10th 25th 50th 75th 90th percentiles of precipitation. Is it possible to have more quantiles like the 95th percentile of precipitation?
3) Could you please give me a hint on how I can manually edit the MTD source code to get my desired outputs?

Thanks,
Hooman

Hello Hooman -

Currently MTD does not allow the user to specify a percentile of
interest
(like MODE does). However (and this is relevant to all three of your
questions) I think that it's possible to extract the information
you're
interested in by examining the output netcdf file.

The MET tools generally try to output information that is widely used.
The
extraction of any particular or specialized information is left to the
user. In particular I would not recommend trying to make changes in
the
source code.

There should be enough information in the netcdf file to answer the
questions you asked in your email, and reading the netcdf file will be
(trust me on this) MUCH easier than trying to understand and edit the
source code.

If you need help understanding the contents of the netcdf file, I'd be
happy to assist you with that.

Hope this helps.

Randy
