  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I am trying to create line plots of spread and skill as a function of
forecast hour. Based on a previous met_help ticket which has now been
resolved, John and Tressa informed me that the ECNT line type is what I am
interested in. However, when I try to run ensemble stat I get a range
check error, and I am unable to figure out what I am doing wrong.
Initially I had the ens dictionary empty in my config file but that
produced a seg fault - after re-adding that information the seg fault
disappeared.

I've attached a log file from one of my failed jobs as well as the ensemble
stat config file I am using. I turned the verbosity level up from 2 to 3.
I'm guessing something isn't being set properly in my config file.

Thanks for your time!
Ben

Hi,

Has anyone had a chance to look into this issue? If not, no problem!
I
forgot to ask John about it during today's METplus user's telecon.

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

Sorry about losing track of this issue. I need to debug the error
you're
getting from Ensemble-Stat. I logged on the various WCOSS machines
but
suspect your data in /ptmp3 isn't available after the production
switch. I
was able to grab your config and mask files, but am piecing some
sample
data together.

Hopefully I'll be able to replicate the behavior here and debug.

Thanks,
John

Ben,

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to replicate this behavior when I ran
using
your config file on my machine. Seems like I should try debugging
directly
on WCOSS once it's available. Can you please let me know when/where I
should look?

Thanks,
John

Subject: Trying to generate ECNT stats - range check error with ensemble stat
From: Benjamin Blake - NOAA Affiliate

Hi John,

No problem at all, thanks for taking a look! I just retrieved all the
data
needed to run a test case on WCOSS. Here are the relevant locations
you
can refer to for testing (on Gyre, phase 2):

/ptmpd3/Benjamin.Blake/ensemblestat_files - directory where output is
written, the .stat files are empty
/ptmpd3/Benjamin.Blake/fcst_and_obs_files - directory containing
forecast
and observation files
/meso/save/Benjamin.Blake/met/ncar_href - MET home directory

Within met/ncar_href:
masks - directory containing mask files
metlog - directory containing log files, the ensstat files contain the
range check error
parm - directory containing config files
scripts - directory containing scripts, the relevant ones are
href_ensstat.sh, ncar_ensstat.sh, and ncar_ensstat_apcp.sh

If you are familiar with using Rocoto, I have a NCARHREF_test.xml that
is
executed by run_test.sh which submits the HREF ensstat jobs.

Thanks again and let me know if you have any questions.

Ben
