Hi All,
I run point_stat and stat_analysis both at the same time 201809151200, since there's only one time, the results from point_stat and stat_analysis should be the same, but GSS looks different between them.
Please find my attached (point_stat_sfcr01_000000L_20180914_160000V_cts (point_stat) and CTSAPCP_A1_1mon (stat_analysis) ) and GSS figs.
Thank you!
Mandy

Subject: GSS results from point_stat isn't consistent with that from stat_analysis
From: John Halley Gotway

Mandy,
I grabbed the files you sent to me. It sounds like you're comparing
the
GSS values from the output of Point-Stat
(point_stat_sfcr01_000000L_20180914_160000V_cts.txt) to the output of
your
STAT-Analysis job (CTSAPCP_A1_1mon(1).txt).
I see in your STAT-Analysis job that you're only including VX_MASK =
DW_MEAN.
I used grep and awk to extract 3 columns of data (FCST_THRESH, TOTAL,
and
GSS) from the output of Point-Stat and STAT-Analysis to demonstrate
that
they are in fact the same:
First, the output of STAT-Analysis:
*cat CTSAPCP_A1_1mon\(1\).txt | awk '{print $2,$3,$47}'*
FCST_THRESH TOTAL GSS
>=0.1&&<=1.5 200 -0.050201
>=1.6&&<=6.9 200 0.16268
>=15.0&&<=39.9 200 NA
>=40.0&&<=49.9 200 NA
>=50.0 200 NA
>=7.0&&<=14.9 200 0
Second, the output of Point-Stat:
*egrep "VERSION|DW_MEAN"
point_stat_sfcr01_000000L_20180914_160000V_cts.txt
| awk '{print $18,$23,$67}'*
FCST_THRESH TOTAL GSS
>=0.1&&<=1.5 200 -0.050201
>=1.6&&<=6.9 200 0.16268
>=7.0&&<=14.9 200 0
>=15.0&&<=39.9 200 NA
>=40.0&&<=49.9 200 NA
>=50.0 200 NA
Note that the numbers are identical. The rows of STAT-Analysis output
are
in a slightly different order, but the values are all consistent.
I can think of two things that may be causing confusion.
(1) Perhaps the order of the data really does matter in the script
you're
using to create your plots? And the ordering if causing confusion.
(2) Your Point-Stat output contains for three different interpolation
settings: NEAREST, MEDIAN, and DW_MEAN. Perhaps your plotting script
is
including output for all three interpolation methods instead of only
using
the DW_MEAN output, as you've done in your STAT-Analysis job?
Hope that helps point you in the right direction.
Thanks,
John

Sorry, it wasn't VX_MASK = DW_MEAN. That should have said
*INTERP_MTHD =
DW_MEAN*.
