[Met_help] [rt.rap.ucar.edu #86037] History for point_stat: HiRA, will it produce CRPS?

Hello,

I've been running the point_stat tool on a set of observation points to generate HiRA output.
This seems to work very well, giving Brier Score and by extension RPS output for the HiRA neighbourhoods in the ascii output.

However for temperature I'd also like to generate CRPS scores for the HiRA neighbourhoods.
Is that functionality present at the moment (I note that it is output from the the ensemble_stat tool)?
And if not is it likely to be point_stat in the future?

Hello Ric,

I see that you've been using the Point-Stat tool do apply the HiRA
verification method.  And you're wondering why CRPS is not currently
included in the probabilistic vx output from Point-Stat.

We actually received this same question from Marion Mittermaier last
week,
who you may know at the MET Office.  Thanks for pointing this issue
out.
I'm contacting the statisticians in our group to determine if/where
CRPS
should be added to the MET output for probabilistic verification.

So I don't have a definitive answer for you at this point, but we will
discuss how/where to add it to a future release.
