met-help,

I was wondering if you have a sample/template of the merge_config_file to be used when merging within a single field. I didn't see one anywhere (but perhaps I missed it).

Best,
Jacob

Jacob,

The "merge" config file is exactly the same as the MODE config file
you pass in on the command line. However, the "fcst" and "obs"
sections are ignored... since MODE already has the objects in hand.
We really only use the fuzzy logic engine portions of the config
file... entries for "weight", "interest_function", and
"total_interest_threshold".

If you do not specify a merge config file on the command line, then
those settings are just taken from the regular config file you passed
in. The reason for having a merge config file option is that you may
want to apply different logic when merging objects in one field than
you apply when matching them across fields.

In practice, I don't know if anyone's actually made use of this
feature, but it seemed like a good idea. I'd be interested to hear if
you find it useful.

Hope that helps clarify.

Thanks,
John
