Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
We have a verification program for TC tracks (and other parameters) that
is similar to met-tc with some additions. We recently noticed that it
can't accurately calculate distances across Greenwich; if we correct
this problem, it can't accurately calculate distances across the
dateline. After testing with met-tc, it appears that the code can
calculate the distances properly.
Can you provide the equations used to calculate distances in the code,
or, alternatively, the subroutine in which distances are calculated?
Thanks,
Sim

Hello Sim,
I will try to find any documentation or whitepapers where this
information
is published. This might take some time, as a significant number of
the
MET staff who know where this information resides are out of the
office
this week.
Regards,
Minna

Hello Sim,
One of the MET engineers has created a whitepaper on how distances are
calculated in MET. Here is the link to the paper:
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/docs/write_ups/gc_simple.pdf
I hope this is helpful. Please let us know you have any additional
questions.
Regards,
Minna

Thanks! This is exactly what is needed. It's interesting that the
longitudes are the negative of what is usually done here.
