  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,
I’d like to use ascii2nc to convert AERONET data that I just obtained from NASA to netcdf.
With command
ascii2nc aeronet.txt aod550_4met.nc -format “aeronet” -v 4

that fails with message

DEBUG 1: Config File: /contrib/met/7.0/share/met/config/Ascii2NcConfig_default
ERROR :
ERROR : AeronetHandler::_readHeaderInfo() -> SURFRAD file has incorrect number of columns (1) in header line
ERROR :
DEBUG 2: Rejected 0 observations off the masking grid.
DEBUG 2: Rejected 0 observations outside the masking polyline.
DEBUG 2: Rejected 0 observations not matched with station ID's.
ERROR :
ERROR : Zero observations retained.
ERROR : Cannot create NetCDF Observation file: aod550_4met.nc
ERROR :

The beginning of AERONET file looks like attached.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mariusz

Hi Mariusz.

I see that you are having trouble with ascii2nc using AERONET data.

Unfortunately, the aeronet.net file was not attached. Could you
please try
to attach it again or upload it to our anonymous ftp site
following these instructions?
   https://dtcenter.org/met/users/support/met_help.php#ftp

Then I can grab the data and try to recreate and solve the problem you
are
experiencing.

Thank you!

Julie

Thank you for sending the data. It was very helpful to able to take a
look
at it.

Currently, met-7.0 cannot read AERONET version 3 data. We will
enhance
ascii2nc to read AERONET version 3 data in the next release, met-7.1.
However, for now, we can still read version 2.0 data available through
this
interface:

https://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/webtool_opera_v2_new

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Julie
