Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear sir,
I tried to compile MET-7 but faced with a lot of errors :
I followed the instruction given in README file and installed most of
external libraries :
HDF4, HDF5, NETCDF, BUFRLIB, GRIB2C,ZLIB
not installed Cairo, HDF-EOS2
for compilation i used gfortran and gcc compilers.
also i sat all environment variables as it mentioned in README files :
export MET_NETCDF=/home/suleiman/local
export MET_NETCDFLIB=/home/suleiman/local/lib export
MET_NETCDFINC=/home/suleiman/local/include
export MET_HDF5=/home/suleiman/local
export MET_BUFR=/home/suleiman/local
export MET_HDF=/home/suleiman/local/hdf4
export MET_GRIB2C=/home/suleiman/local
./configure --prefix=/home/suleiman/WRF/sources/MET --enable-grib2
nc-config --all
This netCDF 4.3.3.1 has been built with the following features:
--cc -> gcc
--cflags -> -I/home/suleiman/local/include
-I/home/suleiman/local/include
--libs -> -L/home/suleiman/local/lib -lnetcdf
--has-c++ -> no
--cxx ->
--has-c++4 -> no
--cxx4 ->
--fc -> gfortran
--fflags -> -I/home/suleiman/local/include
--flibs -> -L/home/suleiman/local/lib -lnetcdff
-L/home/suleiman/local/lib -lnetcdf -lnetcdf
--has-f90 -> no
--has-dap -> no
--has-nc2 -> yes
--has-nc4 -> yes
--has-hdf5 -> yes
--has-hdf4 -> no
--has-pnetcdf-> no
--prefix -> /home/suleiman/local
--includedir-> /home/suleiman/local/include
--version -> netCDF 4.3.3.1
I attached all log files and also information about how was installed
netcdf lib
could you please help me with this.

Subject: MET-7 compilation error
From: Julie Prestopnik
Time: Mon Mar 12 14:19:08 2018
Hi Suleiman. Thank you for registering!
You mentioned that you installed NetCDF-C 4.3.3.1 library, but did not
mention whether or not you installed the NetCDF-CXX package. Both
packages
are required for METv7.0. Based on the error, I think that you may
not
have installed the CXX package. You'll want to be sure that you
install
both the NetCDF-C and the NetCDF-CXX package in the same location so
that
you can set the required MET environment variables appropriately.
We don't have our online tutorial for METv7.0 up yet, however, the
compilation instructions for METv7.0 and its required libraries are
the
same as the instructions for METv6.1. Here is a link to the
compilation
instructions for the required libraries:
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/
METv6.1/tutorial.php?name=compilation&category=req_libs
Also, I noticed that you had both MET_NETCDF *AND* MET_NETCDFLIB and
MET_NETCDFINC set. Please either set only MET_NETCDF or both
MET_NETCDFLIB
and MET_NETCDFINC. If you only set MET_NETCDF, MET will know to look
in the
lib and include subdirectories. Here is the page on our tutorial that
covers that information:
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/
METv6.1/tutorial.php?name=compilation&category=configure
After you have compiled the required libraries and set the required
MET
environment variables, please try re-configuring and re-compiling MET.
I hope that helps! Please let us know how it goes.

Dear Ulya,
Thank you very much . I have got success with compilation.
I would appreciate if you send me example of MODE object based
analysis .
I want to compare precipitations from WRF with radar precipitation.
both
are in netcdf format and have the same grid structure.
Best regards,
Suleiman

Hello Suleiman.
I'm glad to hear that you were able to get a successful compilation!
Thank
you for letting me know.
Here is an example of the MODE tool from our online tutorial:
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/METv6.1/tutorial.php?name=mode&category=index
And here is a link to our User's Guide for met-7.0, which you may find
useful. Chapter 14 is about the MODE tool:
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/docs/users_guide/MET_Users_Guide_v7.0.pdf
I'll go ahead and close this ticket. If you have further questions
about
MODE, please go ahead and submit a new met_help ticket.
Thank you!

Dear Ulya ,
I tried to run mode.exe to compare wrf precipitation with radar
precipitation filed but have got this error :
*DEBUG 1: Default Config File:

could you please tell what is wrong.
Both observation and wrf are have same grid configuration and the
structure

Thank you for sending your data. My apologies in the delay in
responding.
I was out of the office.
Using met-7.0, I'm able to process the data that you sent. I did,
however,
modify the configuration file that you sent.
I changed

to

and then ran the following command:
% /usr/local/met/bin/mode rain_mp8_pbl8_cu5.nc rain_radar_24_noz0.nc

The error that you had received is now gone, however, the warning
about the
valid time still exists. Using ncdump to see the file attributes, I
see
this timing information:
XTIME:standard_name = "time" ;
> XTIME:units = "minutes since 2016-11-30 00:00:00" ;
However, that is not the CF-compliant way of specifying the timing
info.
So, while MET will be able to read the data, the timing info won't be
accurate in the MET output files. Instead, you'll see "19700101" which
is
unixtime = 0.
I would suggest making your file more CF-compliant. Information for
the CF
coordinate time convention can be found here:
http://cfconventions.org/cf-conventions/v1.6.0/cf-
conventions.html#time-coordinate
I hope that helps!

Subject: MET-7 compilation error
From: Suleiman Mostamandi
Time: Mon Mar 26 02:29:40 2018
Dear Ulya,
Thank a lot for your help.
Now it works .
I got two txt files *_cts.txt which has two line one for object and
other
for RAW both of them for fcst_thr >5.0
and the second one *_obj,txt which has 7 lines and all of them for
OBTYPE =
ANALYS and FCST_THR = >=5.0
the question is how can i set different range of threshold for
precipitation or i should run mode every time for given threshold ?
Thanks
Best regards,
Suleiman

Hi Suleiman -
Many of the threshold parameters in the MODE config file can be set to
arrays. Example:
conv_thresh = [ >=5.0, >=10.0, >=15.0 ];
This will cause MODE to loop through all the thresholds, which sounds
like
what you want.
You can read about this starting on page 271 of the MET User's Guide.
Hope this helps.
