  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello.  In re running gen_vx_mask (last Monday's MET+ telecon at EMC
notes:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VskN4QM1_NY2oJm5xa9H-l8gLo_q4YsXmYzH7z_cOig/edit):
when I tested it last week on Tide I got this:

ST3mask=stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb
+ gen_vx_mask stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb
mask_conus.nc -type data -mask_field name='"var255";level="Z0"' -thresh

Here's what's in stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb:

Thinking that it would be easier to ask the question if I run it on
Theia, I copied the setup to Theia, in
/scratch4/NCEPDEV/meso/save/Ying.Lin/met/vx_mask.  When I run
'test_makemask.csh' in that directory, I get

gen_vx_mask: error while loading shared libraries: libnetcdf.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have this in my .cshrc on Theia, following
https://dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/ncwcp_201704.php

module use /scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/modulefiles
module load netcdf ncview wgrib R met/6.0

-------------------------------------------------------------

So two questions:

1) Should I set up my .cshrc differently on Theia?

2) What am I doing wrong with the gen_vx_mask example?

Thanks very much,

Ying

Hi Julie,

I thought I registered as a user years ago.  Thanks for providing the
registration link.  I tried entering registration info several times,
from Firefox (linux) and Chrome (Windows).  After entering all the
registration info and hitting 'submit' button, the form comes back
with
three entries, Affiliation Type, Country where you work, Country of
citizenship reverted back to 'Select'.  Is that registration link
working?

Ying

Hi Ying,

I just tested the form and was able to create a new registration. The
form
requires that all fields be filled out. If any are left blank, it
returns
with an error message:
All Fields Below Are Required. Please Try Again.

Please try again, being sure to fill out all the fields.

Thanks!

John

Subject: gen_vx_mask question; running on Theia
From: Ying Lin
Time: Tue Nov 14 13:31:31 2017

Hi John,

I did fill out all those fields.  After hitting submit the three
fields listed in my original email become blank again (showing
'Select').  If I refill/re-select these three fields and hit 'submit',
the same thing happens - see the attached two screen-shots taken
before
and after 'submit'.  I just tried again, twice, same result.  I do
know
what the "All Fields Below Are Required. Please Try Again."looks like
(tried that several times too) but this is not the case here. After
filling out all the fields and hit 'submit', is it supposed to go to
another page?  I tried this multiple times this morning on both
Firefox
and Chrome, always the same thing.  Any ideas on how to proceed from
here?

Thanks,

Ying

Ying,

OK, I figured it out. It was the *** int'l *** in the "Intended MET
Software Use" box. Having the single tick in that string messed up
the PHP
code.

Thanks for letting us know about this! After removing the single
quote, I
was able to get the registration to stick.

Julie... Ying is now registered. Please proceed :)

Thanks for bearing with us Ying!

John, thanks for figuring this out quickly!  I remember a long time
ago
that a quote (maybe it was a double quote for 'inches') that caused a
problem with MetViewer title.  Will try to remember to avoid quotes in
both PHP and R-related applications.

Ying,

Tatiana added logic in METViewer to allow for single and double quotes
within strings. So that *should* work fine now. I created a ticket
to
track down the PHP problem at some point. I took a quick look but the
problem isn't immediately obvious.

Thanks,
John

Subject: gen_vx_mask question; running on Theia
From: Julie Prestopnik
Time: Tue Nov 14 14:23:53 2017

Hi Ying. I'm glad the problem with the registration is worked out
now.
John, thanks for figuring that out!

Regarding your problem on tide, it appears that a single quote is
misplaced
in your call. For example, I see you have:

gen_vx_mask stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb
mask_conus.nc
-type data -mask_field name='"var255";level="Z0"' -thresh ge150 -name
CNSRFCS

but the single tick after equals before the quote in

name='"var

needs to be moved. And there should be a semicolon after the end
quote in
"Z0"'.

So, it should read:

gen_vx_mask stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb stage3_mask_ctrdef.grb
mask_conus.nc
-type data -mask_field 'name="var255";level="Z0";' -thresh ge150 -name
CNSRFCS

Regarding your trouble on theia, it is likely a problem with
conflicting
modules. I was able to get a successful run on theia after running
the
following and after modifying your test_makemask.csh file.

Please try running the following:

module purge
module use /scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/modulefiles
module load intel netcdf ncview wgrib R met/6.0

and then try it again after making the changes noted above with the
problem
on tide. I used this file:
/scratch4/BMC/dtc/Julie.Prestopnik/ying_lin_20171114/test_makemask.csh
and got a successful run of gen_vx_mask.

If that doesn't work, please let me know. Running "module purge"
isn't an
ideal solution, but we have not yet been able to resolve some of the
conflicting module problems at this time.

I hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Julie

Subject: Re: [rt.rap.ucar.edu #83004] gen_vx_mask question; running on Theia
From: Ying Lin
Time: Tue Nov 14 17:30:32 2017

Thanks very much, Julie for resolving both of my questions in one go
(and thanks John!).

Yes, following your directions, I got the mask-making to work on both
wcoss and theia.

In my scripts I actually had the single quote in front of the first
"name" (w/o the double quote) rather than the "var255" (transcription
error when copying the line to email and deleting some unnatural line
break).  After adding the semi-colon after the "Z0" it worked.

This is great.   I don't mind at all adding the "module purge" to get
it
to work on theia.

Thanks again,

Ying
