  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear whom it may concern:

I would like to use "ascii2nc" tool for converting my own point observation
to MET NetCDF format.

I have some questions on input point observation format.

1. I would like to use 12-h accumulated precipitation observation.
I set "ADPSFC", "61", and "12.0" for "Message_Type", "Grib_Code", and
"Level" columns.
Do I set properly?

2. What value should I put for "QC_String" column?

3. If I have missing observations, then what value should I use to indicate
missing value?

Thank you for your kindness.

Best regards
Yonghan Choi

Hello,

I see that you're wondering how to format input for the ascii2nc tool.
Here are my answers to your questions:

(1) Message_Type = ADPSFC is good since precip occurs at the surface.
Grib_Code = 61 is good since that's the number for APCP.
Level = 12, but not "12.0" since it's a string that should be in
HH or
HHMMSS format for an accumulation interval.

(2) QC_String = NA is fine. If you have actually quality control
values,
you can set them here and then filter by them using the "obs_quality"
setting in the Point-Stat config file. If you don't have quality
control
values, you can set it to any string you'd like, such as NA.

(3) If you have missing observations, you could just omit them from
the
ascii file. But if it's easier to keep them in there, use a value of
"-9999" which is the value MET uses for missing data.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
John Halley Gotway
