Dear Sir/Madam,
I am trying to compile METv5.1 using the GNU compilers (v4.8.5). I followed the installation manual and try it several times, but in all cases I got the following error:

After spending a few hours to find the solution, I could find your solution in the following e-mail threads:

In the mentioned solution, there are some links to files that I couldn't download them. I'd like to be sure about the following issues:
1- Is the error the same as the mentioned ones (the above links)?
2-How can I access to the additional files to be able to compile MET successfully?

Hi.  I apologize for the delay in responding.  Thank you for taking
the time to find other met_help tickets that could help solve the
problem you are experiencing.

One of our system administrators offered a different workaround, which
would be more simple.  Instead of having you download and replace
files, in your met-5.1/src/basic/vx_config/ directory, please run the
following commands:

 touch config.tab.yy color_parser_yacc.yy
 touch config.tab.cc color_parser_yacc.cc

Then, please rerun "configure" and "make install" from the top level
met-5.1 directory.

Please try that and let us know if it works for you.

Hi.  I'm sorry to hear that you are having additional problems.  Let's
go back to our original workaround for the original problem you
encountered.

I'd like to have you start over with your build and installation.
Please proceed in the following way:

- unpack the met-5.1 tarball.
- apply the met-5.1 patches.
- update the Makefiles with the ones that are attached here (in the
way I describe below).
- run configure.
- run make install.

I have attached two files which I modified:

vx_color.Makefile.in
vx_config.Makefile.in

Please take vx_color.Makefile.in, rename it to Makefile.in and place
it in your src/libcode/vx_color/ directory, replacing the existing
Makefile.in file.

Please take vx_config.Makefile.in, rename it to Makefile.in and place
it in your  src/basic/vx_config/ directory, replacing the existing
Makefile.in file.

Please give that a try and let me know how it works out for you.

Dear Julie,
Thanks a lot for providing me with the solution & your appreciated
support.
With the original workaround, the problem was solved. However, I got
some errors that some of them related to my own settings and the rest
could be related to the compiling process. As I think maybe some other
users have the same problems in compiling MET, I am trying to share
them with you. I hope they will be useful for other researchers work
with MET.
1- Installing netCDF: to be able to compile MET, both netCDF and
netCDF C++ should be installed.
2- The name of gc2lib should be changed manually from
"libg2c_v1.6.0.a"  to "libgrib2c.a".
3- If HDF4 is compiled with szip, then the  MET-HDF should be defined
as: export MET_HDFLIB='/hdf4_2.11/lib64 -lsz'
4- There are some other modifications in defining the related MET-
Environments (in the bash file) that could be found in the following
link as well as the summery of MET compiling steps:

I should thank you again for supporting me to compile MET successfully

I'm glad that you were able to solve the problem with the workaround.

Prior to responding to your met_help ticket, I received guidance that
I was able to help with that specific issue, however, I regret to
inform you that I am generally unable to provide direct assistance to
you based on the Export Compliance laws in the United States.

We can't provide assistance in the use of MET for foreign military
purposes.  Here's the official UCAR policy on the matter, by which we
must abide:
