Dear
As UPP can not be installed on my Mac so can you suggest me any other
method to convert WRF-ARW output file to readable by MET. similarly what is
the most suitable method to convert TRMM data to be readable by MET.
Thanks

Shazad,

If UPP is not an option, I would suggest using the pinterp utility.
It
reads WRF NetCDF output files and writes a flavor of NetCDF that MET
can
read. However, MET only reads data on that non-staggered dimensions.
Wind
is defined on the staggered dimensions so MET won't be able to read
the U
and V wind components.

You can download the p_interp utility here:
   http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/utilities/util.htm

For TRMM data, I'd suggest getting it in binary format and running the
trmm2nc.R script to subset and reformat it to a NetCDF format that MET
can
read. Information about this can be found here:
   http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/downloads/observation_data.php

However, you're going to run into a problem when you try to compare
your
gridded forecasts and observations. They likely won't be on the same
grid
and there is no easy way to regrid from one to another.

MET version 5.1 is due out late this summer and will include
functionality
to automatically regrid data on the fly. If either your forecast or
observations were in GRIB format you could use the copygb utility to
regrid
it. Since neither is, this automated regridding will be very useful
to
you. That development work is mostly done, but we have several other
pieces we're working on. If you'd like to try this out, I could share
with
you an initial beta release of version 5.1. But its still a work in
progress.

Just let me know.

Thanks,
John
