  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,
In my test I transform wrfout using UPP and the total precipitation variable in wrfprs_d02.00 is A_PCP_GDS3_SFC_acc.
But when I use met to perform a wavelet_stat, and set " name = "A_PCP_GDS3_SFC_acc";" in WaveletStatConfig,
the error is ERROR :
ERROR  : VarInfoGrib::set_dict() - unrecognized GRIB1 field abbreviation 'R_H_GDS3_HTGL' for table version 2
ERROR :
It can be seen from file WaveletStatConfig_default that "name="APCP"" and "level=[ "A03" ]" ,but the sample data "data/sample_fcst/2005080700/wrfprs_ruc13_12.tm00_G212" doesn't have a var named "APCP".
I have no idea what does that mean and I do like to know how to fill "name" and "level" in WaveletStatConfig.

    Thanks for your consideration!

My apologies for no writing sooner. Somehow this met_help ticket got
lost in the shuffle. Are you still experiencing problems running the
wavelet-stat tool in MET?

Thanks,

Thanks very much for your kind consideration! I have solved some
questions with your kindly help.
Wish everything goes well!

Sir:
As seen from user guide, MET can calculate Brier score
,reliability Diagram and ROC curve by Grid-stat. Could it caculate it
for ensemble forecast? If so ,how could I do that.
Thanks very much!

Zhuang,

The Brier Score, Reliability Diagram, and ROC curve are included in
the
probabilistic output lines from Grid-Stat. You would need to generate
a
probability field in some way and pass that to the Grid-Stat tool.
For
example, suppose you have a probability of precipitation (POP) field
containing values from 0 to 100 to indicate the likelihood of
precipitation
occurring for each grid point. You pass Grid-Stat that POP forecast
along
with observations of precipitation, and you'd choose a threshold for
the
observations that define the event of the probability... for POP, you
might
threshold the observed precip >0.

Your next question might be - how do I take my ensemble output and
generate
a probabilistic forecast? There are many methods for converting
ensemble
data into probabilities and it's an active area of research. However,
the
Ensemble-Stat tool provides the most basic method... you choose a
threshold
and for each grid point, it computes the proportion of ensemble
members
that meet the threshold criteria. We call it the "relative
frequency".

So one possibility is to run Ensemble-Stat to compute relative
frequencies
and use Grid-Stat to verify them as probabilities.

Hope that helps.
