To ftp the prepbufr data for a day as follows:
ndas.t00Z.prepbufr.tm03.nr
ndas.t00Z.prepbufr.tm06.nr
ndas.t06Z.prepbufr.tm03.nr
ndas.t06Z.prepbufr.tm06.nr
ndas.t12Z.prepbufr.tm03.nr
ndas.t12Z.prepbufr.tm06.nr
ndas.t18Z.prepbufr.tm03.nr
ndas.t18Z.prepbufr.tm06.nr
But the link I was using ceased to provide data on or about 19 FEB. I can't
determine if the problem is the source (ncep server) or our ability to
connect to that server. That link is
ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod
I tried using the other link you provide for the NDAS data at
http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod/, but when I navigate
to the folder for 26 and 27 FEB 2013, I cannot find the filenames I'm
looking for (shown above).
Are you experiencing the same problem at your end? Do you have any
suggestions on how I can get the data for 26,27 FEB 2013?

So it looks like the PREPBUFR data is still being posted to that ftp
site. Are you still unable to retrieve it from there?
Regarding the data on the NOMADS site, try looking at:
http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod/ndas.YYYYMMDD/ndas.tHHz.prepbufr.tmHH.nr
Where YYYYMMDD and HH are filled in with time stamps.

Sorry for not responding earlier. I was out of the office last Friday.
Thanks for checking the source for the data and confirming that it's
still
there. The problem appears to be a local one.
Our system admin Bob Flanigan conducted a test from home last Thursday
night
and was able to successfully connect to the same site and see the
files.
See the attached for the response I just received when I clicked your
links
below from my windows PC here at work.
Looks like the site is being blocked here at work, so we will address
this
with our network security people.

Our system admin is working a blocking issue with the primary site
ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod.
However, they said that the alternate site
(http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod/) was
accessible just not responding or busy. Were you able to see the ndas
files available for download?

Here is what I get when I go to the nomads site:
I can reach it by going to
http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod/ where I can
display
the daily folders for February which all have names like nam.YYYYMMDD.
I'm
looking for the data for 26,27 FEB, but when I open the folders
nam.20130226
and nam.20130227 I can't find any files with the "ndas" string in the
name.
Are you able to see this specific data?

You've almost got it. You're looking in the sub-directories named
"nam.YYYYMMDD", but you should be looking in the ones named
"ndas.YYYYMMDD". Looks like they have 30 days of NAM model output
data
available, but only 1-2 days of the NDAS data-assimilation data. Here
are the directories for yesterday and today:

In there, look for the files with "prepbufr" in their name.
I realize why you were confused - the downloads page on the MET
website indicates that it's a 1-month buffer for NDAS. I've updated
that to say it's a 1 - 2 day buffer.

of days, I'll consult with my NOAA NAM modelers contacts who were able

older data from some offline archive they maintain, but I think this

You've almost got it. You're looking in the sub-directories named
"nam.YYYYMMDD", but you should be looking in the ones named
"ndas.YYYYMMDD".
Looks like they have 30 days of NAM model output data available, but
only 1-2
days of the NDAS data-assimilation data. Here are the directories for
yesterday and today:

http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/nam/prod/ndas.20130305/
