Hi:

I am trying to use the wavelet tool to smooth a 2d field.

Just add back the first few components after decomposition.

It seems that this tool is meant for verification.

Am I correct? Thanks.

Will,

You are correct that the MET wavelet_stat tool only performs
verification.  It is not a general MRA tool.  For such a
utility, I would suggest the R statistical language, Matlab or
similar.
