  Initial Request

I looked through an NCDUMP of the prepbufr files I am retrieving. The literature on prepbufr implies there should be precip accumulation data in the file but I don't see it in the file. Should precip be available in prepbufr? We need this since stage IV is only over the US.

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

Currently, the PB2NC tool is only set up to retrieve the following
observation variables from PREPBUFR files: P, Q, T, Z, U, V. We
realize this is a shortcoming, and that we should enhance PB2NC to
extract additional observations from the PREPBUFR files. I've seen
the documentation to which you're referring and see that accumulated
precip is listed as one of the observation types. Whether
those observations are in fact in the PREPBUFR files that are publicly
available, I am not sure.

We'll need to do some development work here to extract those
additional observations, and we're in the midst of a busy summer.
Unfortunately, for the time being, you're stuck with the P, Q, T, Z,
U,
V observations. But if this functionality is important to your
operations, we can move it up on our priority list.

Thanks,

Busy is good - don't need to change priorities. We get precip via
another method but I wanted to see how well MET dealt with precip
verification over non-CONUS areas.

Thanks
