Dear ISP team members,
I wanted to provide you with a brief update on key developments over the
last few weeks.
First, and most importantly, I am pleased to announce that Paula
Robinson has accepted my offer to become a Program Specialist in ISP.
Paula will serve as the ISP Administrator, managing ISP's budget
processes, and will work with all of us and our partners in the NCAR
laboratories on program planning, development, and implementation. She
is currently the Executive Administrator of the GLOBE program in UCP,
and before GLOBE held a variety of positions in JOSS. She has extensive
experience in program management, budget and administration, and in
project and event management. Paula's official start date is today, but
she has already begun providing me with valuable advice on various
aspects of ISP activities. Her office will be in Tower B of the Mesa
Lab. I think we are very fortunate that Paula decided to join ISP, and
I am sure that you will all enjoy working with her.
Second, as announced by Marion Hammond and Helen Moshak on November 2,
the space allocation process for the Mesa Laboratory has been
completed. Things turned out well for ISP in this process. Our
headquarters will be located in Tower B of the Mesa lab. It includes a
suite of offices and a conference room on the south end of the 5^th
floor and a large collaboratory space on the 6^th floor. Paula,
Michelle Rangel, and Terri Cantrell will each have an office on the 5^th
floor. We also have 3 interior office spaces that are available for use
by ISP staff, along with the conference room and the collaborator
space. We will be working to furnish and set up set up the offices,
conference room and collaboratory over the next few weeks. I expect
them to be "operational" in January.
Third, we have begun our FY11 budget planning. Over the next several
months, Paula and I will be working with the leads of all the ISP
long-term projects to identify their priorities and plans, establish a
limited set of overall ISP priorities for the NCAR Annual Budget review,
and develop an overarching ISP strategic plan. We will be working
closely with our NCAR laboratory partners throughout this process.
Finally, we have decided to defer our first big ISP social gathering
until early January. I very much want to get everyone together, but it
seemed like the best option for a big turnout was to avoid conflicts
with the many NCAR holiday parties that are coming up, AGU, and
everyone's personal holiday plans. We will announce a date and venue soon
Peter
