Good morning, and Happy President's Day,

a Better CV and Cover Letter." Please see the *attached slides* from the
seminar a few weeks ago. The recording of the seminar is found here on
YouTube <https://youtu.be/JeSfD_-1RT4>.

A CV Feedback Workshop

Feb. 18th, 9:30 - 10:45 am MT

*Register here*
<https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYlcu6gqTMvHdCqvcIG2sa5M_DsTGMvK0DE>
to get Zoom details sent to you.

Important: This workshop requires that you prepare an updated CV and upload
it here <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CV-upload> by 5 pm, Tuesday, Feb.
16th to participate. (Apologies for the late notice).

Workshop Format:

After a short introduction, participants will be moved into breakout groups
of four people. The groups will take turns reviewing one CV at a time,
spending about 15 minutes on each person’s CV. The facilitators will move
between breakout groups to provide support as needed.

1. Prepare an updated version of your CV to upload by 5 pm MT on Tuesday,
Feb. 16th.

Gear your CV to your target employer: (1) a research and teaching
university; (2) a research lab (e.g. NCAR, NOAA, etc.); (3) a teaching
college, (4) a postdoc, etc. For other types of employers, consider writing
a resume instead of a CV. If enough people submit resumes, we can have a
breakout group on resumes.

*Tips from a senior scientist at NCAR: *

   - If you have a lot of conference presentations, cluster them, e.g. AMS:
   2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 without listing every title.
   - Published papers are more highly valued, and so do include all of
them. Include submitted papers but not paper "in prep."
   - Consider including sections like "Technical Skills" (e.g. coding
languages, etc.) and "Leadership Experiences" (committee work, society
work, organizing a seminar series, outreach)
   - Make the formatting neat with big enough margins and line spacing, no
colors, no boxes, and simple fonts.
